Kellie's Home Cooking, Loganville

Found this restaurant from a 2005 AccessAtlanta review. Since the Lester was away, it was Little FlygURL, GrandDad and me, FlygURL.

The strip mall in which Kellie's is now located looks to be abandoned. You will really have to be on the lookout for this location. Parking was ample and convenient. Good handicapped access and ramps to the storefront.

One of my anxieties of trying a new restaurant is determining the method of seating and service:
  • Buckhead style- Order/pay up front and seat yourself with an object. Food is delivered to the table by the object.
  • Traditional style- You are seated, waited upon, and pay at your table.
  • Cashier/Traditional style - You are seated, waited upon, and pay at cashier.
Unfortunately, there was no one to greet us so that we could politely ask about the method service. When I asked the cashier if we were to be seated or set ourselves, she curtly told me to seat myself. Not very welcoming to the newcomer. Handicapped seating is good as there are plenty of tables where chairs can be easily moved. It was disappointing that none of the staff offered to assist in seating us; we had a wheelchair and a 4 year old in our party of three - my hands were full.

However, once we were seated, we had our drinks quickly. Our waitress was very patient with the time it took for us to order. You see, there is a menu at the table and there is a additional menu on the wall, and there are even items not on any menu. So, it took a while for me to get an order out of everyone (4 year old and an 85 year old) confirmed for the waitress. (We are a challenging bunch.)

Biscuits and cornbread were delivered to the table. Little FlygURL loved the biscuits. I liked the cornbread a great deal. It was not sweet :) and it was very moist.

GrandDad and I each ordered the fried catfish fillets with two veggies each. I had the cheesy potatoes and green beans. GrandDad had the turnip greens and potatoes with gravy. Little FlygURL had the kid's veggie plate with mac-n-cheese, applesauce, and peach slices. Peaches, green beans, and applesauce were canned. Potatoes were delicious and cheesy with bacon too! Mac-n-cheese looked good - Little FlygURL was pleased. Catfish was yummy!

Dessert for Little FlygURL and I was a slice of Kellie's homemade peanut butter pie. It was as good as licking the bowl when making peanut butter cookies. Wait - it was even better!

GrandDad has the chocolate cream pie. While it was not made onsite, it was quite tasty.

FlygURL gives Kellie's Home Cooking 3 out of 5 Flies. What does that mean? It means that I may go back, if I am out that way. But, I'll probably not make the drive just to go there.
